CHAMONIX . . . LE MYTHE

The first successful ascent of Mont-Blanc was made in 1786, after 25 years of attempts.
In 1924, Chamonix hosted the first ever Winter Olympic Games. Gaston Rébuffat, René Desmaison, Jean-Marc Boivin, Patrick Gabarrou, Christophe Profit, Jean-Christophe Lafaille...
Sandie Cochepain, Paragliding World Champion, Karine Ruby, Olympic snowboard champion,
Arno Adam, Freeride World Champion, ...this adventurous spirit is still apparent in today's young.

A mountain guide from the famous 'Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix' will accompany you on the legendary 'Vallée Blanche' ski run, the longest glacial descent in the world. He will also explain the summits and their epic history.

250 years of tourism

Since 1873, the English, Russians, Americans, Argentineans, Canadians, Italians & Scandinavians have all trodden the well worn path to Chamonix.

The Mont-Blanc & Croix-Blanche hotels are fine examples of the long tradition of welcoming visitors to the valley.

CHAMONIX IN WINTER

For its excellent quality of guaranteed snow cover (90% of the skiing domains are over 2000m in altitude) until the beginning of May: an exceptional vertical drop at the 'Grands Montets', an unforgettable descent of the 'Vallée Blanche' as well as vast ski areas for beginners.

A paradise for non-skiers too: Discover the 'Mer de Glace' by the Montenvers rack & pinion train, or the stunning panorama of the 'Geant' glacier from the summit of the 'Aiguille du Midi' (the highest cable car in Europe).

Open all year round, Chamonix is a town of over 10,000 permanent inhabitants and made up of several hamlets dotted along the valley floor. The town centre has kept its incomparable traditional atmosphere.

CHAMONIX IN SUMMER

At the foot of Mont-Blanc, the highest peak in western Europe, lies Chamonix, one of the most visited natural sites in the world after the Niagara Falls and Mount Fuji. It is the cradle of alpinism.

Nowhere else will you find easy access to the world of high mountains : "La Mer de Glace" can easily be reached by the Montenvers rack & pinion train and there are breathtaking views at the "Aiguille du Midi" reached by Europe's highest cable car.

350km of marked footpaths in mid-altitude terrain: a trekkers paradise.
A huge choice of cultural or sporting activities : museum, large sports centre, swimming pool, squash, tennis …

An 18 hole golf course (par 72) in an exceptional setting. Open from May to November.
